TGFABT – Psalm 57

Until

“I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.”
Psalm 57:1b

How long to stay in His refuge?

Until I come up with a better plan.

Until I seek my friend’s advice.

Until I get tired of waiting.

Until I seek revenge myself.

Or

Until the disaster has passed.

What do we do while we wait for the disaster to pass?

Walk with God

David continued to work as a shepherd. 1 Sam 16:13

What does walking with God look like?

  • Spending time in prayer each day, In confession, In praise, In worship
  • Spending time in His Word
  • Spending time seeking and following His will

Accept an invitation to move

David moved to the palace to work for King Saul.

Invite others to be a part of your wait

David’s friend and confidant was Jonathon. 1 Sam. 18:1

Taste and see that the Lord is good

David faced trials during his wait but still could say the Lord is good.
Psalm 34:8

Truth Tuesday

Journal: What truth is God teaching you through Psalm 57?

My truth is simple to say, much more difficult to carry out… stay until the disaster passes, until God decides not me.

Word Study Wednesday

“I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.” Psalm 57:1b

“In the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until [these] calamities be overpast.” KJV

I thought the definition of disaster was worth discussing today. A tornado, fire, hurricane, or terrorist’s attack are what come to mind when I hear the word disaster The Hebrew transliteration surprised me.  It suggests that we can bring disaster to ourselves through mischief, sin, and haughtiness. I don’t know about you girls but there are enough naturally occurring disasters happening around me that I don’t need to bring them on myself.

Definitely something to think about.

havvah  (hav-vaw’)

calamity, iniquity, mischief, mischievous thing, naughtiness, naughty, perverse thing,

Thankful Thursday

Journal: Tell God something that you are thankful for.

Today I am thankful for music, old and new, from Great is Thy Faithfulness to Christ in Me the Hope of Glory. I carry the lyrics in my soul and they keep my soul from reacting in an inappropriate way.

Faith Stretching/Strengthening Friday

Journal: How is God stretching/strengthening your faith?

God is stretching my faith as I learn a new job.  I am in a position at Proverbs and what I have learned is that it is difficult to learn new things at 45. I continue to sing this song in my head.  Oh the encouragement that it brings me.  I trust it encourages you.
