Word Study Wednesday, January 25 and RTW

Word Study Wednesday

I must confess: at this point in our study I don’t know which day of the week is my favorite.  I absolutely LOVE what God is doing through His alive, active, and amazing Word each day of the week.

This week’s word is amazingly powerful indeed.  As you know when I came upon it on Monday I could hardly contain myself.

O ye sons of men how long will ye turn my glory into shame how long will ye love vanity and seek after leasing.(KJV)

Drumroll please….our word is leasing (lee zing).    Words don’t give justice to the power of this word.  I wish we were all in a room talking about this word and the effect it has had on our lives.

kazab-(kaw-zawb’)-lies, deception, falsehood (Hebrew meaning)

The false gods we seek (ask, beg, desire, request) and are lies.  They deceive us and have limited power.  When their power runs out we are left longing for real love and a connection to something real.

We futilely chase lies even though the Truth  designed for us, is in us.  We only need to look for and yield to Him.  The false god has convinced us that what is inside is ugly, useless, and undesirable.  But through the power of God’s Word and His Holy Spirit we have the power to see beyond the lies.  It takes time and commitment but we can be free from the power of the false gods, free to seek (ask, beg, desire, request) the One True God.

Deception is just as powerful today as it was at its point of origin, the Garden of Eden.  It is time to stop being its victim, don’ t you think?

Psalm Study

The reference to the scripture in 1 Peter should be 5:7 not 1:7.

Discussion

  1. Jeanne McDonald says:

Thank You so much Wendy for clarifying 1 Peter!
I was reading and reading and just could not get it! I even called my husband over to see if I was missing something! Now I don’t feel so foolish!
I’m loving the Psalm study Wendy!

  2. Tracy in NJ says:

Friends I have wonderful news to share! Baby Bruce went home to his delighted mom and dad this past weekend. Thank you all sooooo much for your prayers for this little one. For those who are new, this little boy is the nephew of one of my coworkers who was born very premature in November.

    • Joy says:

Oh Tracy…tears fill my eyes. God is good. Thank you for sharing this update.

    • Lisa says:

Praise the Lord, I have a special place in my heart for all premature babies because I have 2 grandchildren that were born extremely premature. God is Good all the Time, All the Time God is Good! Thanks for the update and I will continue to keep baby Bruce up in prayer because as I know from experience, he still has a long road ahead of him.

    • Praise God, Tracy! I’m so glad to hear about this update. My nephew was also born premature but you’d never know to look at him now. God is good!

  3. Lakeisha says:

Praise God Tracy! God is SO Good!!! That is great news. And thanks Wendy for clarifying this scripture because I thought, this one must be too deep for me :) because I didn’t get it. I even looked up 2 Peter- I feel enter now. This Psalm is such a blessing.

  4. Lakeisha says:

Oops sorry, meant I feel better now :)

  5. Joy says:

Wendy, this Psalm continues to speak so deeply to me…so personally…I can’t express my thoughts here, but I just wanted to say thank you. The Lord is speaking directly to a situation that I’m having to deal with, one that I had hoped to “tweak”, but God is asking for more.

Yesterday in a companion devotional I use daily I read this: “Another mistake in interpreting God’s voice is to assume that His message to us will fit right into our normal lives. The truth is, His call is often life changing. Therefore, we should not assume that He might only want to ‘tweak’ details of your life; He may want to change it completely.” I couldn’t believe the very word “tweak” that I had used in describing my circumstance with a friend earlier had appeared in my reading. God is asking for radical change. Overwhelms me that He would speak so clearly.

I have to be honest, regarding the 1 Peter reference, it may not have been the verse you intended, but it was intended for me. Your question: What does God care about? My take-away from 1 Peter 1:7 was that the Lord cares about refining my faith and proving it genuine, resulting in praise, glory and honor when Christ is revealed. I definitely feel I am in His refining fires right now, but I won’t come through burned, but beautiful if I allow Him full access and respond in obedience.

Love ya Wendy. Praying for your day today. Thanks for being used to gently move my heart through a difficult refining,
    Joy

    • Lynne says:

Joy – Thanks for sharing your insight on 1 Peter 1:7. It was intended for me as well as I already commented on yesterday. Now I don’t feel so foolish!

Blessings on your day! His refining fire will bring you freedom!

      Lynne

  6. Lynne says:

Wendy – in reading your notes for today about deception, lies and falsehood it reminded be of a quote from another bible study I had taken: “The key to our freedom (from these things) is when we are deliberate (intentional) to shift our focus from all that begs to differ from the truth of the Living God. When we do that our faith and freedom will emerge!

I love the transforming power of the Word of God!

    Blessings!
    Lynne

  7. Carol in Texas says:

What a great WORD today, Wendy. I had been looking that one also. One thing that drew my attention today is the word in front of “false gods”…..SEEK! (NIV) It’s not by accident they just creep into our lives, we actually go about SEEKING them out. OUCH! that hurts. “Lord help me to stop seeking anything but YOU”.

  8. Paola says:

THe Psalms are such a blessing, to dive into them and dissect every verse. It brings a whole new meaning to me when I read it out loud.
    Have a Wonderful Wednesday!

  9. That’s interesting about “leasing.” To me the modern connotation also applies. When one is leasing something, a car for instance, it means it does not really belong to us. It is something temporal .
    tem·po·ral 1 (tmpr-l, tmprl)
    adj.
    1. Of, relating to, or limited by time: a temporal dimension; temporal and spatial boundaries.
    2. Of or relating to the material world; worldly: the temporal possessions of the Church.
    3. Lasting only for a time; not eternal; passing: our temporal existence.
    4. Secular or lay; civil: lords temporal and spiritual.
    5. Grammar Expressing time: (from freedictionary.com)

So anything the world has to offer, I cannot rely on because it is not going to last forever. Only the things of God will last. My focus should be on those.

  10. Stephanie W says:

I heard Wendy say she was excited about the word study. I was confused…Until Monday I did not realize there was a Word Study Wednesday!! I love this!! I had started doing this last year when my Pastor asked us to commit 2 studying the Bible with him. Guess I won’t immediately delete msgs from the other study I’m not currently doing! Lol!!

  11. Rhonda in MA says:

The word that got me was relieved…….psalm 4:1 Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; in my dictionary…is says: to make strong enough for….yes the Lord my not take it away but HE WILL make me strong enough to press on.

I love, love, love this word study. I have never been this hungry for His word as I am right now. Thanks Wendy and thanks all you ladies out there : )
